Summary: Gestural interaction uses human gestures to interact with an interactive system. Many efforts have been done to define gestures and facilitate a comfortable and natural way to interact. In this paper an experimental session in laboratory conditions is presented aiming at analyzing the usability factors of a vision-based gestural interface. Based on the results, recommendations are given to modify the configuration of some parameters between the human, the Kinect sensor, Kinect Mouse and the virtual visit of a museum with the final aim to improve the overall interaction.

Summary: We designed and developed a vision-based computer interface which works with head movements. The system was implemented in a centre for users with cerebral palsy and they used it in contexts related with recreation or with education. During this process, it was observed that the continued use of the interface with a set of training tasks may act as a physical and cognitive rehabilitation tool and complement users' rehabilitation therapy. We comment on five case studies of users who have worked with the interface for five months and whose qualitative outcomes, observed by the therapists who accompanied them, were positive; specifically there was improvement in work posture, head control, increased endurance, decreased involuntary movements and improved spatial orientation. The case studies also showed the need to supervise the users' work in order to achieve these aims, along with the importance of motivation and active, voluntary participation of users in the rehabilitation process.

Summary: This paper reflects the state of art in the field of human factors for unmanned aerial vehicles. It describes the GEDIS-UAV guide, which is a modification of the GEDIS guide. It also shows the evaluation of the Sky-eye project graphical user interface as an example of the methodology. The analysis and evaluation method reflected in this paper may be used to improve the graphical user interface of any unmanned aerial vehicle.

[4] A study of the human-system interface complexity sources in wastewater treatment plants / Ponsa, Pere / Pérez, A. / Gámiz, J. / Manresa-Yee, Cristina / Vilanova, Ramon Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Interacción Persona-Ordenador 2012-10-03 p.2

Summary: In human-automation interaction it is necessary to define methods and tools to assess the human-system interface complexity. In a first assessment, the use of an evaluation questionnaire aiming at detecting complexity sources in the human supervisory control room tasks in wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) is presented in this paper. The first results show that the elicitation of complexity sources can be useful to improve the interaction between humans and safety-critical systems in the industrial domain.

Summary: When we develop an input device for users to communicate with computers, we have to take into account that end-users must consider the utilization of the device to be effective, efficient and satisfactory. Users whose expectations are unmet by the interface will tend to abandon it. In this paper we present a vision-based interface for motor-impaired users; a multidisciplinary group developed this interface. The user's preferences are a critical issue when selecting an access device; therefore, user requirements should be included in the design. Usability evaluation should be integrated into relevant phases of software development. In order to evaluate the design, we present a process with multiple user studies at different development stages. We describe the combination of a development project and its implementation, with user experience considerations embedded in the process. Finally, we studied the performance of the interface through several tests, paying special attention to satisfaction and fatigue. From our results we observed that although several users found the interface tiring, their satisfaction level was encouraging, suggesting the interface is usable.

Summary: In tasks of human supervision in industrial control room they are applied generic disciplines as the software engineering and the physical ergonomics for the design of the computing interface and the design of the control room layout. From the point of view of the human computer interaction, to these disciplines it is necessary to add the usability engineering and the cognitive ergonomics since they contribute rules for the user centered design. The main goal of this work is the creation of a cognitive ergonomic guideline for supervisory control interface design in order to improve the efficiency of the human machine systems in industrial automation.
